Child Support Arrears in the State of California
Child support arrears grow at 10% simple interest. So if the arrears are ignored in 10 years the amount you owe will be double.
The State of California may intercept tax refunds, garnish wages, levy bank accounts, and take away state licenses.
This means ignoring the arrears only allows it to grow out of control. To make it managable, you can ask the Court to set the arrears and establish a payment plan.
While you have an active child support order, each month you wait to reduce your child support order is another month you cannot get a later reduction for and will owe 10% interest on until paid off.
